What Are Utah Scones?
If you are local to Utah or even the intermountain region, chances are your definition of a “scone” differs from those in other states. If you were to order a “scone” in the eastern U.S., chances are you’d end up with a traditional english scone.
Traditional English scones are made from a dough of butter, flour, salt and eggs and have a similar appearance to American biscuits. On the other hand, Utah scones are made with yeast and no butter, making the dough airy and sweet.
The flat but fluffy “Utah Scones'' we know, are more often referred to as fry bread elsewhere in the U.S. No matter what you call them, Utah scones are a tasty deep-fried treat we can’t get enough of.
